Hunting is an important component of wildlife management, provides funding for conservation, and has deep cultural roots in the United States. Social acceptance of hunting is key in ensuring that associated conservation efforts can continue. Implementing the North American Model of Conservation relies in part on the purchase of hunting license fees and excise taxes on hunting and shooting sports equipment through federal acts.

Serval Cat Hunting

 In May of 2024 I had the opportunity to fly across the big salty pond to South Africa where I did some night hunting with Johan Pietrese. This was my 3rd time on the African continent (2nd time in South Africa). I've only done day hunts.  This was my first night hunt and I had no idea what to expect. My quest was a serval.

Our trip left from Sitka, Alaska. Bert Stromquist picked us up at the airport and took us to his store, the Orion, to purchase our fishing licenses. We also shopped in the local grocery store and liquor store by his store for additional items we thought we might enjoy.

How I Shot my First Buck

This past summer me, dad and brother Zane planted food plots so we could give the deer a variety of food to eat come fall.  We practiced over the summer with the crossbow as I did last year but this time, I could go and hunt during the archery season and not just the youth season.

Letter from the President: Successful Fundraiser!

The 46th Annual Mid-Michigan Hunters Fundraiser Gala was an overwhelming SUCCESS!! We had an excellent overall event with a great turnout of attendees, and we’ve welcomed both old and new Outfitters and Vendors to exhibit at our show.  My Thanks and Gratitude goes out to everyone who came and participated, we couldn't have done such a great show without you!  We are on track to raise a hefty amount of money to support our Chapter initiatives and support SCI International's goals of conservation, outdoor sportsman, and hunting rights.

Peacock Bass Fishing on the Amazon

In January of 2024, Don and I flew from Detroit to Ft. Lauderdale to Manaus on the Rio Negro, a tributary off the Amazon River in Brazil.  Our daughter, Ann, and her husband, Mark, our son, Todd, and his girlfriend, Tracy, went with us.  We had always wanted to fish for Peacock Bass and while at the SCI Convention in Nashville last year, found their booth and booked this trip.
